Sophia Savalas
Sophia Savalas was an Artist and Iconographer whose work, inspired by her Savalas ancestors, blended Byzantine iconography, spiritual symbolism, and modern abstract expression. Today, Sophia’s legacy continues through this boutique collection of archival quality Giclée reproductions of handcrafted original paintings rooted in heritage, meditation, and artistic process.
Heritage Woven with Process
As a first-generation Greek American, Sophia Savalas drew inspiration from her Savalas ancestors and the prolific creative environment that surrounded her family. Early memories of her Uncle Theodore’s icon studio — its rich aromas, luminous imagery, and tactile beauty — deeply shaped her artistic vision. Committed to the traditional materials and methods of Byzantine Iconography, Sophia created her icons using natural elements and centuries-old techniques, practices that also influenced her Abstract paintings. For Sophia, the artistic process itself became a meditation, infused with spiritual symbolism and a profound connection to heritage. See more

Education Woven with Heritage
Trained in the San Francisco art schools of the 1950s and 1960s, Sophia Savalas combined artistic expression with the study of psychology, earning advanced degrees in both fields. Her work, rooted in Greek Mythology, is infused with vibrant color, symbolic form, and emotional depth that invite reflection on the human experience. Raised in a richly creative Greek-American family, Sophia was deeply influenced by her father’s Greco-centric vision of the world as multi-connected and cross-ethnic, shaped through stories, theater, poetry, and mythology. Twenty years as a therapist further deepened her empathy for the human condition, enriching paintings that blend heart, heritage, and spiritual introspection. See More
